Ukraine war has entered its fourth month, characterized by a relentless struggle for a peaceful resolution. The war in Ukraine has inflicted a severe toll on the country’s already struggling economy, burdened by corruption, poverty, and debt even prior to the conflict’s outbreak. The World Bank predicts a 9.5% contraction in Ukraine’s GDP in 2023 directly attributed to the war. Additionally, trade, infrastructure, agriculture, and energy sectors have experienced substantial disruptions.

The agricultural sector, contributing around 10% to Ukraine’s GDP and employing approximately 16% of its workforce, has been significantly affected. As one of the world’s largest grain exporters, Ukraine’s food security and export potential are endangered by the war. Russia has employed various pretexts to impede or delay shipments of Ukrainian grain from ports in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.
