Tragic Crash: MiG-21 Fighter Jet Collides with Residential Home, Claiming Lives of 3 Women
Pilot Safely Ejects Before Aircraft Plunges into Village
A devastating incident unfolded in Rajasthan’s Hanumangarh when a MiG-21 fighter aircraft, engaged in a routine training mission, suddenly caught fire and crashed into a residential home. Moments before the impact, the pilot managed to eject safely, landing 25 kilometers away from the Suratgarh airbase in Sri Ganganagar. Witnesses in Bahlol Nagar village, located 403 kilometers from Jaipur, recounted hearing a thunderous explosion in the sky around 9:45 a.m., followed by the harrowing sight of the jet engulfed in flames, rapidly descending towards the ground. The MiG-21, an aircraft being phased out by the Indian Air Force (IAF), disintegrated upon impact.
The IAF issued a statement, explaining, “A MiG-21 fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed this morning at approximately 9:45 hours during a routine operational training sortie from the Air Force Station in Suratgarh. The pilot encountered an onboard emergency and attempted recovery procedures. Unfortunately, he was unable to regain control, leading to his ejection and sustaining minor injuries. Regrettably, the wreckage fell onto a house in Bahlol Nagar, resulting in the tragic loss of three lives.”
Expressing condolences to the grieving families, the IAF expressed deep regret over the incident and pledged support. The local administration has assured a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the kin of each deceased victim. The affected families, all below the poverty line, have also requested job assistance from the government, emphasizing the extensive damage caused to their homes, including Bansho’s residence, which was completely flattened, and the adjoining houses of Narendra and Lal Singh, suffering cracks and structural damage.
The affected families are currently unable to access their homes due to safety concerns, further exacerbating the challenges they face in this difficult time.
