The KYC Fraud: Three people caught for scamming a woman: A 22-year-old woman from Nagpada, Mumbai, was allegedly deceived by three individuals from Jharkhand, resulting in a financial loss of Rs 65,700 through KYC fraud. In her police complaint, the victim stated that she received a call from someone claiming to be an employee of the State Bank of India (SBI), urging her to update her KYC details. Sensing something amiss, she promptly disconnected the call. However, shortly afterward, she received a link that ultimately led to her losing the aforementioned amount. Upon investigation, it was revealed that the call originated from Jharkhand, raising suspicions of a larger operation at play.

Unmasking the Perpetrators

The accused have been identified as Munzir Imtiaz Ansari (18), Ali Muddin Congress Ansari (27), and Jahangir Ansari (18), all residents of Jamtara district in Jharkhand. Operating from a call center, the fraudsters exploited text messages to deceive unsuspecting individuals into updating their KYC details. Once the victim clicked on the provided link, the accused gained unauthorized access to their bank account information and proceeded to siphon off funds.

In this particular incident, the accused impersonated SBI employees during their interaction with the woman. They informed her that her account had raised suspicions of illicit activity and urged her to update her KYC details. Falling prey to their deceit, the woman clicked on the link they had sent. This action inadvertently granted the fraudsters access to her bank account, resulting in the transfer of Rs 65,700 from her savings.

The police have reported that the accused have defrauded over 40 individuals, amounting to a staggering sum of more than Rs 10 lakh. Following their apprehension, the authorities have seized eight mobile phones, two laptops, and a router as crucial evidence in the ongoing investigation.
